Prof Khurana is professor in the Dept of Neurology at PGIMER, Chandigarh, where he is also in charge of the Multiple Sclerosis Programme. He is vice-president of the World NCD Federation. His special interests are acute stroke, neurosonology and multiple sclerosis. He has established the PGI stroke programme and Neurosonology Lab, as well as the MS Clinic at PGI. He is actively involved in the MS registry and biomarker studies M-Health and Neurorehabilitation.
In 2014 he received the Practicing Physician Quality Award of AAN at 66th Annual Meeting of AAN, Philadelphia USA. In the same year he was a finalist for the BMJ Awards India in the category, Excellence in Medical Education.

He mentored/assisted with the setting up of the stroke programme for the Govt. of Punjab and Haryana. He has chaired the ISA Stroke guideline committee, and is national coordinator for the SITS-SEARES registry. He has published more than 110 papers in national and international publications, and was principal investigator for more than 15 clinical trials/observational studies and registries.
He has been an invited speaker/faculty in over 90 national and international Conferences, and has given research presentations at more than 15 national and 30 international Conferences.

Prof Khurana is a past President of the Indian Stroke Association.
